The City of Norfolk, Maritime Center - Nauticus is seeking to hire a Battleship Electrician. The Electrician II is responsible for installing and maintaining the electrical systems aboard the Battleship Wisconsin.
Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.
Department Hiring Salary Range: $42,629 - $69,485
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
Minimum journeyman electrician/ NAVY Ship EM
Required two years as a Ship Electrician
Preferred License(s) and/or Certification(s):Â Â
Work Schedule:Â Â Tuesday-Saturday, 40 hours pers week. Â Occasional evenings and Sundays are required.
Signing Bonus:Â This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.Â

Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
- Installs and maintains lighting and electrical systems by installing systems, circuits and conduits, troubleshooting and repairing circuits, changing ballasts in light fixtures, replacing switches, receptacles and light fixtures, pulling data and communication cable, following strict tool and inventory control procedures, relamping with new lamps, cleaning lens, replacing and repairing lighting internal components and troubleshooting.
- Fills special project requirements and new construction by running new circuits for receptacles, wiring and splicing in strings of lighting, testing and retesting lighting for on/off of all facilities at the same time, installing time clocks, contractors, photocells, including wiring, conduits, boxes, fittings and installing new fixtures in elevators.
- Maintain/replace/troubleshoot electrical components of the ventilation systems.
- Assists with the management of projects by planning installation, gathering information and estimates from contractors, procuring materials and supervising Maintenance Volunteers.
- Performs other duties by hanging banners and flags, testing and repairing ship systems, locksets and control panels, testing and installing cameras, monitors and data equipment.
- Performing administrative tasks related to systems operation and maintenance
