The City of Norfolk’s Parking Division is an enterprise fund, which falls under the Department of General Services. The Parking Division operates over 19,000 public parking spaces located in 14 garages, 10 lots and more than 500 on street spaces.
Manages operations of computer controlled parking garages and lots, and parking enforcement function. Writes and implements plans and schedules for events and festivals, and coordinates traffic control with police. Directs, verifies, audits, deposits and reports city revenue. Provides staff oversight and supervision, and performs administrative duties.
Essential Functions
- Provides direct oversight for the parking enforcement function by supervising meter monitors, interacting with various City offices and with the public, applying City code to parking regulations, and being familiar with City streets.
- Provide court testimony when required for contested citations.
- Facilitates the closing of meters for construction-related projects or special events for the Parking Meter Permit Program.
- Oversees vehicle maintenance, including scheduling preventative maintenance.
- As a working supervisor, produce citations for parking violations using a handheld computer device, checking for vehicle information and violation accuracy.
- Validate tows and arrange for illegally parked or abandoned vehicles to be towed, including directing tow trucks to the correct vehicle, and assisting with traffic when needed.
- Provide information to the public regarding parking violations, investigating and answer complaints regarding citations.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
Required:
- One year of experience in a supervisory position in customer service.
- Parking industry experience.
Additional Information & Requirements
- Valid Driver's License required. A DMV transcript dated within 30 days be required if selected for hire.
- Monday – Friday - 7:30AM – 4:00PM 40 hours per week
- Occasional overtime
- Scheduled rotation / Rotation as needed
