The City of Norfolk's Department of Parks and Recreation is currently seeking a Small Engine Shop Supervisor in the Division of Landscape Service. The Division of Landscape Service owns and operates approximately 100 zero turn mowers and close to 200 small engine equipment (weed eaters, chain saws, bed edgers) that must be maintained in order to meet the need required to maintain approximately 2800 acres of open space on a 10-day rotation. The Maintenance Supervisor II is a leadership position requiring the ability to communicate effectively to the public and staff, lead others, and efficiently manage workload during routine and stressful environments such as storm response and cleanup.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Three years' experience as a Maintenance Technician or Supervisor.
Virginia Driver’s License, required
CPR/First Aid Certification preferred, required within 6 months of employment

Work Hours: Monday – Friday 6:30am to 30:0pm
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Supervises small engine shop that is responsible for the maintaining small engine equipment. Manages day to day operations for 4 mechanics and handles all the purchasing of parts and equipment needed to complete repairs.
- Assesses the maintenance needs of small equipment for Landscape and Forestry Operations to ensure that operations have available equipment to perform all operation related task. Performs small engine repairs and assist with managing the department small engine equipment.
- Responds to emergencies involving inclement weather, prioritizes service requests, assesses work conditions, coordinates and assigns responsibilities and equipment to various crews, and conveys inspection results and policies to staff, coworkers.
