What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Maintenance Mechanic I - Water Distribution (Meter Group) position at City of Norfolk, VA?
The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I in our Water Distribution Division. This person performs preventative maintenance and repairs to residential and commercial water meters in the City's water system.Â
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
Â
 * Notify customers in person in the field or with the use of a city issued cell phone to complete work order complaints.
 * Complete service work orders electronically by use of a City issued iPad.
 * In addition, the Utility Maintenance Mechanic I report major system disruptions, leaks and failures and responds to customer complaints by answering questions regarding water services and checking meter to verify leaks and accurate meter readings.
 * Work on-call night shift and weekends as scheduled.
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, and technical processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

One year in machinery repair or maintenance, or successful completion of a City apprenticeship program
Valid Driver's License required.
Work Hours: Â Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Work Location:Â Utilities Combined Operation Center, 1316 Ballentine Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.Â
