What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant II position at City of Norfolk?
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Monitors various expenses, projects and accounts by monitoring all expenses incurred for a particular event, reviewing vendor statements to ensure that all invoices are posted to the system and paid, researching any vendor related issues, reconciling contracts, reviewing invoices for completeness, preparing and distributing monthly and quarterly financial reports, ensuring that proper accounting standards are used and consistently applied, maintaining records for the Department, developing spreadsheets and recording expenditures for reports, ensures all City's procurement policies and procedures are followed.
- Analyzes and maintains financial statement schedules and reports by reviewing the general ledger and recording adjusting entries on a monthly basis and as needed.
- Prepares monthly schedules by monitoring daily cash receipts, auditing cash balances, reviewing and preparing invoices and preparing various reports and analyses as needed.
- Contributes to special projects by collecting data and combining and summarizing data into relevant information.
- Assists with annual budget and financial statement preparation by providing technical support and analyzing and examining divisional reports for accuracy and clarity. Also, prepares various schedules and work papers for the annual budget and external audit.
One year experience.
The desired candidate will possess three years of accounting experience in government.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This position is designated as an Essential position which means you may be required to work extended, rotating, after hours, nights and/or weekends in response to emergencies and severe weather.
Salary : $50,624 - $66,590
