Fleet Management is a division within the Department of General Services and is responsible for the acquisition, disposal, maintenance, and servicing of over 2,000 city vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Management Division (FMD) also manages various fleet programs such as fuel management, motor-pool services, and contract administration. The city currently averages 1,466 active rolling stock units and 560 active equipment units. These units are utilized to provide a variety of services to city residents ranging from public safety to utility and refuse needs. The ability of city departments to provide services effectively and efficiently is often dependent on a safe and reliable fleet of vehicles and equipment.
The division of Fleet Management is seeking an experienced Automotive Repair Technician I to perform basic vehicle care and maintenance to include changing oil, checking fluid levels and rotating tires. Repair and replace worn parts such as brake pads, wheel bearings, and sensors. Perform repairs to manufacturer and customer specifications and explain automotive problems and repairs to clients.
- Performs preventative maintenance and general repair to vehicles and equipment by performing inspections,
evaluating performance, diagnosing the problem, and repairing or replacing parts. - Diagnoses and repairs vehicles by using equipment and tools to properly locate and correct any problem areas.
- Performs other duties by retrieving City vehicles and towing, cleaning interior and exterior areas of the shop, ordering
and picking up parts, and logging information into the computer. - Inspects, sets-up and prepares new vehicles and equipment to be placed in service.
- Ability to use basic computer software, such as Microsoft Windows, and Fleet Management software.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds and work in dirty or hazardous area.
- Work requires the ability to read job or work orders, repair manuals, maps, equipment manuals, instructions, schedules, MSDS, and diagnostic equipment.
Required:
- One year of work experience performing automotive maintenance and repair duties.
- ASE-Automotive Service Excellence Certification
- VA State Safety Inspection license
- Vocational/Technical School education level
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Valid CDL (Class A) Driver's License must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
- This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires.
- Monday - Friday, 6:30AM -3:00PM, 40hrs/week
Salary : $42,629 - $49,023
