The Downtown Branch at Slover invites applications for a full-time Library Assistant II position to join our Circulation/Collection Development Team. Success in this position draws on the incumbent’s competencies in advocating an inclusive and diverse library collection, nurturing safe and accessible library spaces, embracing innovative processes and technologies that enhance library operations, and collaborating with coworkers to ensure a holistic library experience.
The Slover is a beautiful venue and multi-use facility in downtown Norfolk with a mission to be a premier destination for residents and visitors to enjoy. The Slover supports a thriving downtown by encouraging tourism, providing resources for entrepreneurs, and housing the Downtown Branch at Slover library component. Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Provides coverage of public service points.
Performs circulation activities by checking materials in and out, reserving material requests, registering new patrons, coordinating interlibrary loans, and collecting fees.
Assists with searching databases for information and resources and recommending reading material.
Receives, sorts, and shelves library materials.
Provides quality customer service in person, electronically, and by phone.
Proficient with technology – gaming systems, cameras, computers, copiers, mobile devices, printers, scanners, and other equipment as required.
Promotes access and demonstrates use of e-resources.
Performs administrative duties by preparing statistical reports, ordering supplies, opening mail, distributing library materials, replacing damaged materials, and preparing lost book forms.
Assists with events by setting up displays and researching and preparing information about authors.
Assists with the receiving and ordering of new library materials using the online computer program by entering and checking the received orders and assisting with the creation of selection lists and purchase orders.
Completes opening and closing procedures and maintains cleanliness of the library.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
One year of experience in library or related customer service work..Work Hours: This full-time position is 40 hours per week and will include rotating nights and weekends to support operations of the library.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.
