The City of Norfolk Department of Public Works is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Storekeeper II by controlling and maintaining the storehouse inventory and facility. This person will procure, receive, store, and distribute equipment, materials, and supplies. Monitors expenditures and ensure procurement compliance.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk’s citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City’s Street Network, Storm Water System and Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.
The Division of Streets & Bridges strives to make vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout Norfolk pleasant and safe by repairing potholes, road repairs, broken sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. The Division is also responsible for grading shoulders and medians and responding to emergencies by removing ice, snow, and storm debris.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Four years experience in parts operations.
Additional Preferred Education/Experience:
The desired candidate will possess four years of experience in storehouse or warehouse operations.
Knowledge of general accounting processes, procurement processes and procedures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; 40 hours per week every week.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $40,960-$47,104
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Procures equipment, materials and supplies by determining requirements, contacting vendors, requesting data such as cost, availability, delivery and payment terms, preparing requisition forms and providing quotes and material specifications to purchasing divisions for vendor selection on amounts over specified amount.
- Receives supplies, equipment and materials by checking requisition against vendor receipts, inspecting for damage, conducting quality assurance evaluations, processing receivers and updating weekly statistical reports.
- Controls inventory by distributing items to proper locations, entering item locations into inventory control system, rotating stock, contacting requisitioning personnel, processing receipts, verifying accuracy and completeness of paperwork, matching stock numbers with item descriptions, performing physical inventory, resolving vendor and customer discrepancy and preparing, processing and maintaining records and reports.
- Maintains storehouse facilities by cleaning and repairing facilities and equipment, dusting, mopping, and sweeping, checking fluid levels in vehicles and remaining on call for emergencies.
- Monitors expenditures from general fund accounts by recording expenditures, maintaining balances and coordinating with financial assistant to reconcile budgetary figures.
- Orders and reviews reorder points for stock parts, assists parts clerks in the resolution of discrepancies, procures difficult or unique parts, monitors operations to ensure process, documentation and system compliance.
- Performs emergency weather recovery by providing supply assistance in the removal operations for ice, snow , and storm debris.
Four years experience in parts operations.

The desired candidate will possess four years of experience in storehouse or warehouse operations.
Knowledge of general accounting processes, procurement processes and procedures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Valid Driver's License required. Must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicle driving record (Must be obtained within last 30 days) during the interview.
