A Utilities Field Service Technician is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!
This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill four (4) vacancies for this classification. The current vacancy is in the UTILITIES department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $29.55. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 5:00am to 2:30pm.
- Environment – While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, or vibration. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but may be loud for limited durations while working with power tools, equipment, or machinery follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations. Very heavy work: exerting up to a 100 pound of force occasionally to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds unassisted. Must be able to work any shift and will be subject to mandatory, rotational stand by. May be required to wear personal protective equipment when needed.
THE ROLE
Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of water and/or waste water systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, with additional vocational or technical training in a mechanical maintenance is preferred.
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing construction and maintenance in the repair and maintenance of water and waste water systems.
- Experience using a backhoe in small or large water and wastewater systems construction/maintenance, utility construction, and/or utility maintenance is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- A valid Nevada State Class “A” Commercial Driver’s license with tanker endorsements must be:
➢ Internal Candidates – obtained within six (6) months of transfer/reclassification or promotion.
➢ External Candidates – at time of application. - Must possess State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Certificate – Grade I, within twelve (12) months of the time of hire, promotion, transfer or reclassification.
- Completion of OSHA 10 Hour construction course no later than 15 days after starting in position.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
- Practical Exam (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
- Selection/Offers!
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
