What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Worker I position at City of North Miami Beach?
Under general supervision, performs a variety of general maintenance and construction activities related to facility maintenance, to include carpentry, plumbing, roofing, concrete work, and safety implementation. Reports to the Facilities Manager or their designee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Initiates and or assists with carpentry projects.
- Fabricating and assembling signs
- Backups and/or assists with graffiti removal.
- Assists with painting projects
- Performs pressure cleaning
- Performs and or assists with plumbing repairs.
- Performs masonry projects.
- Performs construction projects as requested to include: design, fabrication and assembly.
- Does Task Force duties.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Assists in monitoring City facilities for any safety hazard and correcting situation.
- Performs various carpentry duties to include hanging or repairing doors, making cabinets, hanging drywall, repairing and replacing windows, repairing fences, putting up tiles, paneling, handling ceilings and emergency board-up of houses or buildings.
- Handles plumbing responsibilities to include unplugging toilets and drains, repairing or replacing pipes, and repairing, replacing and laying out sprinkler systems and valves.
- Assists with construction of cabinets, suggestion boxes, wall units, office desks, tables, and other related furniture as requested.
- May be responsible for leading work force on the field, and teaching new workers procedures and safety regulations.
- Receives, reviews, and prepares various forms and documents to include daily work sheets, vehicle check sheets, work orders, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with a variety of groups and individuals to include coworkers, supervisors, and other department personnel, other City employees, citizens, etc.
- Operates and utilizes related tools and equipment to include pick-up truck, boom truck, trencher, genie lift, fork lift, concrete cutter, computers, generators, sandblasters, power saws and tools, welding machines, air compressors, key cutters, etc.
- Replaces shingles, rolls roofs, and performs related roofing duties.
- Assists with various concrete assignments.
- May be responsible for painting various City areas to include inside and outside of buildings, desks, ceilings, covering graffiti, signs, etc.
- Assists the electricians, welders and air conditioning mechanics as required on various projects.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with three to five years’ experience in related trade areas to include carpentry, plumbing, construction, maintenance, etc.; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, division and department heads, public/private sector contacts, and City contractors.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record held throughout employment.
