What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance Worker (Public Works) position at City of North Miami?
Performs unskilled and semi-skilled trades work, which often involves heavy manual labor and the use of acquired skills. Other duties as required.
This is routine work involving the use of some skills acquired by experience or on-the-job instruction. Work requires more than usual physical strength and endurance. An employee in this class normally works under the supervision of a technical supervisor who issues oral or written work orders and inspects work frequently.
- Maintains lift stations;
- Works with copper tubing, copper pipe, galvanized and PVC pipe;
- Greases motors and pumps;
- Performs basic plumbing and pipefitting tasks;
- Rods sewer lines;
- Lays and replaces water or sewer lines;
- Repairs water lines and installs water meters and fire hydrants;
- Performs semi-skilled manual labor in the maintenance and construction of City streets;
- Raises and lowers manholes and performs the rough masonry work involved;
- Assembles forms for sidewalks and curbing and works as a cement finisher, works with concrete, cement and mortar performing basic construction work;
- Paints equipment and buildings;
- Changes light bulbs, switches, ballasts, timer motors and does basic electrical work.
Some experience in performing unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks.
Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
Must obtain a commercial driver's license CDL "Class B" or higher within one (1) year of employment.
- Some knowledge of a variety of the skilled trades and crafts;
- Some ability to perform semi-skilled or skilled trades maintenance tasks;
- Willingness to perform heavy manual work for an extended period under varying climatic conditions;
- Ability to drive a vehicle;
- Ability to read, write and understand assignments in English.
