What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Aide position at City of North Miami?
High school graduation plus some experience in one or more phases of a community recreation program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be available to work when needed for various programs. Must have a valid driver's license.o Instructs participants in a variety of activities at a park or facility;
o Assists in organizing, promoting and leading diversified recreational activities;
o Assists in community-wide recreational events for all age groups;
o Assists in the preparation and promotion of special programs;
o Maintains records and assists in the preparation of periodic and special reports;
o Collects fees and charges for on-going recreation programs, classes, and special events;
o Close out and balance cash register at the end of each shift;
o Organizes and supervises assigned phases of recreation programs;
o Coaches, officiates or instructs in special activities;
o Assists in organizing and conducting competitions, displays and other group activities;
o Assists with the research of purchasing equipment and supplies authorized by immediate supervisor;
o Assists with the out of school time activities - After School Program, Athletics Program, Seasonal Camp Program, Adult Program and City-wide Special events;
o Monitors departmental programs scheduled at the facility;
o Performs registrations and reports through the ActiveNet Computer Program;
o Assists with the inventory, upkeep and repair of the facility and facility equipment;
o Performs assigned duties before and after a declared emergency;
o Provides customer service to the public and internal customers utilizing the facility;
o Performs related duties as required and as directed.
o Often carries heavy equipment up and down stairs depending upon type of program activity involved;
o Climbing, running, jumping and bending;
o Works outdoors in varying weather conditions;
o Operates a calculator;
o Operates Microsoft word programs;
o Operates emails;
o Drives city vehicles to transport program participants.o Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and techniques of recreational activities;
o Considerable knowledge of community recreational work;
o Ability to carry on an activity in a broad phase of the program;
o Ability to cooperate with public and private groups and agencies and the general public;
o Ability to develop and maintain communication and effective relationships with co-workers and with activity participants;
o Ability to develop interest and participation in community recreational activities with varied age groups;
o Ability to perform basic office tasks (phone, typing, fax) helpful;
o Ability to prioritize and handle multiple program tasks and work independently;
o Ability to follow oral and written directions;
o Ability to maintain facility for safety hazards and knowledge of proper use of safety practices;
o Ability to perform monetary transactions; close out and balance cash register;
o Ability to learn basic computer skills as well as the ActiveNet registration system and Tyler cash register system;
o Ability to produce and maintain records and reports;
o Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the facility and program needs and assist in special events during the year;
o Ability to perform routine building maintenance - scrub, mop, sweep, move tables and chairs, clean office areas and restrooms;
o Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
