What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Tech III position at City of North Port?
- Performs in specialized tasks in the construction, renovation, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment, apparatus and facilities to include, but not limited to the following: general plumbing work in repairing and replacement of valves, fixtures, and old lines; general carpentry work; performs tile work, plastering, cement, masonry and block work.
- Performs general maintenance and assists in specialized repair of the following: roofing; air conditioning and heating equipment; plumbing and routine electrical repairs to City buildings.
- Assembles and disassembles furniture work stations per provided floor plans or directions; works with Supervisor to coordinate IT for equipment and wiring removal and installation.
- Performs repairs or replacement of equipment including gates, motors, pumps, valves, batteries etc.
- Assists in writing specifications and in preparing bids for special projects.
- Utilizes HVAC control systems to adjust heating, air conditioning and ventilation.
- Assists in the inspection of work being performed by contractors working for the City.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains manual locks, door openers, closers, and hardware.
- Works with vendors for automated lock installation and repairs.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections.
- Recognizes and reports safety issues to immediate supervisor.
- Track and record time and materials for assigned work orders in the work management system.
- Performs other functions related to City-wide Facilities Maintenance as assigned.
- Knowledge of principles and practices, methods, and materials used in the building, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical crafts.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Skilled in troubleshooting and making repairs.
- Ability and skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trades to which assigned.
- Ability to work from blueprints, rough sketches and oral and written instructions.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience in building maintenance and repair.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
- Must submit to, and receive clearance from, a State and National Criminal Background Investigation in compliance with the City of North Port Police Accreditation Hiring Standards.
- Locksmith and Bucket-Truck Operation certifications.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
