What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator I position at City of North Port?
- Includes, but not limited to road and street maintenance (i.e. asphalt patching, concrete patching, sidewalk installation).
- Ground and lawn maintenance, including, but not limited to, landscaping, weed-eating, roadside mowing, ditch and swale clearing, drainage facilities cleaning.
- Operates simple tools, electrical tools, and light-medium heavy equipment to perform duties.
- Tree trimming.
- Performing duties of a flagman.
- Painting of traffic control lines.
- Installs pavement markers.
- Recognizes and reports safety issues to direct supervisor.

- Ability and skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the type of work outlined in the essential job duties above.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to perform routine unskilled manual work.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and understand and follow oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred.
- One (1) year experience in grounds maintenance, construction and/or heavy manual labor.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Florida Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide Applicators license or Florida Right-of-Way Pesticide Applicators License preferred.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
