What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Lifeguard position at City of North Port?
- Assists with maintaining a safe aquatic facility including providing real time feedback and noting suggestions and comments for supervisor's review.
- Follows direction from Head Lifeguard, or designee, regarding placement and rotations during shift to ensure efficient guarding and safety.
- Responsible for guarding and safety of participants within all aquatic facilities, administer first aid and life saving measures per industry standards.
- Completes housekeeping, general maintenance tasks and logs data/ creates reports as directed.
- Model standards and expectations throughout shift.
- Responsible for post until relieved by another guard.
- Quick action to any potential emergency situation.
- Attend regular in-service trainings and other trainings and meetings as they are held.
- Part-time positions will assist in instructional classes, programs, and special events.

- Must be able to swim at least 500 yards.
- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, respond and remedy unsafe situations.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and ages.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Previous involvement with water related activities and/or experience as life guard or swim lesson instructor preferred.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Ability to obtain nationally accredited lifeguard certification within 14 days of hire.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
