The Northampton Department of Public Works is seeking 6 Seasonal Laborers!
Manual work assisting in the operations of DPW in all Divisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
May perform some or all of the following General Functions; as well as the function specific to the departments to which assigned.
Mows grass; trims shrubs; rakes and seeds.
Perform minor maintenance on equipment used (greasing; changing oil; spark plugs; and filters).
Plows roads and sidewalks using light trucks; tracked vehicle; and shovels.
May be assigned to other DPW divisions on an as needed basis or in an emergency.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge; Skills; and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in the work performed. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions; ability to operate power hand tools; such as power lawn mowers; tampers; jackhammers; and similar equipment.
Massachusetts Class D Driver's license required. CDL preferred. Residency within 15 miles of the physical boundaries of the City of Northampton is desirable.
Working Conditions:
Moderate to strenuous physical effort generally required. Eyesight and hearing at or correctable to "normal ranges."MISC. INFORMATION:
Seasonal Laborer Assignment Term: May 1 - November 1, 2025: up to six months.Six (6) Openings in all Divisions.
Schedule: Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
40 hours per week.
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour.
There are no benefits with seasonal laborer positions.
