The City of Northfield is recruiting for a full-time Mechanic. This position is responsible for repairs, rebuilds, and or overhauls of major assemblies of internal combustion and diesel automobiles, trucks, tractors, heavy and light equipment. This position also operates equipment and performs duties involving the repair and maintenance of streets, parks and park equipment, trails and public spaces, storm sewers and storm water ponds as necessary.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
HOURS OF WORK:
Regular 40 hours per week. Monday thru Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Position will require flexibility in future scheduling to include all hours at the employers’ discretion for appropriate coverage and efficiency. Must work overtime as assigned; may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends, including holidays for special event coverage, weather conditions and emergency situations. Timely reporting to work with a minimum of absences.

Mechanic I Job Description
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- ASE certifications required, prefer NATEF/ASE Certified Master Technician.
- Two to three years’ experience in automobile, small engine and/or heavy equipment repair.
- An excellent driving record.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid State of Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License within six months of hire.
- Basic Word and Excel computer skills.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
- Preference given to those holding MNDOT and Forklift certifications.
