HIRING RANGE: $25.22 - $29.00 / HOUR
Position Highlights: This is skilled and semi-skilled work in the use and operation of a wide variety of equipment, machinery and hand and power tools and/or in the operation of heavy equipment in connection with the delivery of a wide variety of municipal services.
An employee in this class performs a wide variety of tasks often involving considerable physical exertion under adverse working conditions. Employees are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment, machinery, hand and power tools and/or heavy equipment. Work involves the utilization of specialized knowledge and skills in the operation of heavy and complex equipment such as Roll off Trucks, Grapple Hook, Front End Loader, Backhoe, and snow removal.
Work may also involve field coordination of the work of other employees and/or seasonal employees in the accomplishment of specialized tasks in the absence of a foreman or other superior. Work requires the use of initiative to ensure efficient accomplishment of assigned work. Work is performed at the direction of a supervisor or foreman and is reviewed in progress for adherence to prescribed standards and through inspection of results obtained.

- Operate sanitation trucks, including side-load vehicles, roll off trucks and grapple hook trucks to collect and transport solid waste, recyclables, and yard debris.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure trucks are in safe working condition.
- Assist with curbside collection with side arm automated truck occasional lifting and emptying of bins or containers.
- Follow designated routes and schedules while ensuring safety and compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints in a courteous and professional manner.
- Assist in the placement and removal of waste containers, handling waste materials in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain accurate records of work activities, including time sheets, DOT regulations and daily routes.
- Ensure compliance with all city regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor, Operations Manager or Public Works Director.
Must possess, at the time of appointment, a valid Colorado Driver's license as issued by the State of Colorado, and a clean driving record.
Must possess a Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Completion of specific safety training may be required.No less than 24 months of acceptable demonstrated skills in the operation of all equipment and performance of all functions required within the appropriate division operation; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledges, abilities and skills:
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material and methods used in maintenance, construction and repair work.
Strong understanding of safety practices related to waste collection and vehicle operation.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
Ability to utilize mechanical hand tools and various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Basic mechanical skills for vehicle inspections and troubleshooting.
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor work under adverse conditions when necessary.
Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Skill in the operation of heavy equipment.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools, light and specialized vehicles, equipment and materials.
