Description of Work
Position Definition: This position involves performing a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and beautification of parks and recreational areas. The employee will assist in the upkeep of park facilities, including buildings, structures, and outdoor spaces, and operate tractor-type mowers for large-scale mowing activities. Tasks include, but are not limited to, repairing and maintaining equipment, performing minor building repairs, landscaping, and ensuring that recreational areas remain safe, clean, and visually appealing. This role works closely with full-time staff and may involve both independent and team-based work to ensure the proper functioning of parks and recreational facilities.
General Duties:
- Perform a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and beautification of parks, recreational areas, and associated facilities.
- Operate and maintain tractor-type mowers for large-scale mowing activities across park grounds.
- Assist with the repair and maintenance of park facilities, including buildings, stadiums, gymnasiums, swimming pools, pavilions, comfort stations, shelters, bleachers, water fountains, fences, picnic tables, benches, and parking facilities.
- Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, replacing washers, repairing faucets and irrigation lines, and maintaining picnic benches and other park structures.
- Assist in maintaining and cleaning recreational equipment and amenities to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Assist in seasonal tasks, such as planting, mulching, and preparing grounds for different weather conditions.
- Ensure that all tasks are completed safely and efficiently, following relevant safety procedures and guidelines.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other related duties as assigned, including special projects or tasks that support the overall maintenance and improvement of parks and recreational facilities.
- Respond to public inquiries and provide general information regarding park facilities, rules, and available amenities.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to park maintenance and operations.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays based on park needs and scheduling.
- Assist with event setup and breakdown for community or park-based events.
Supervised By: Receives direction from the Superintendent of Parks and Public Property and/or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in manual labor and semi-skilled tasks involving the care, maintenance and beautification of landscaped areas, performance of semi-skilled or skilled building or mechanical trades experience, and/or operation or repair of tractor type mowers.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
