Position Overview: The Assistant Diving Coach supports the planning and delivery of structured small-group diving practices as part of Norwalk Recreation & Parks’ Learn-to-Swim/Dive program. Working under the guidance of the Diving Coach, this role helps ensure a safe, positive, and skill-building environment for divers of varying experience levels. The assistant will aid in demonstrating techniques, providing feedback, setting up equipment, and maintaining clear communication with participants and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in leading small-group diving practices focused on progressive skill development, safety, and participant enjoyment.
- Support the execution of lesson plans and training goals developed by the Diving Coach.
- Demonstrate proper diving techniques, including takeoffs, body positioning, entries, and overall form.
- Provide basic feedback and encouragement to athletes, helping reinforce corrections and improvements.
- Help monitor safety on the deck and during dives, ensuring adherence to established safety protocols.
- Assist with the setup, breakdown, and maintenance of diving equipment before and after practices.
- Communicate effectively and positively with athletes, parents, and program staff to support a collaborative training environment.
Supervision: Receives direction from the Aquatics Supervisor and/or their designee.
- Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of proper diving techniques, progressions, and safety protocols.
- First Aid principles and practices, including automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- General aquatics safety rules and regulations.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong swimming abilities, with the capacity to cover long distances.
- Experience working with youth athletes in a coaching or instructional role.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with the public.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety protocols and written instructions
- Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet the health and physical condition standards required to perform the position's essential duties, including the ability to swim long distances and remain alert under various conditions.
- 1 year of experience as a competitive diver and diving coach required.
- Certifications (Must be Current):
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certificate (or equivalent).
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent).
- Additional certifications as required by local or state regulations.
Salary : $20 - $25
