Position Summary:
This position will perform a variety of maintenance duties pertaining to the overall operation of grounds and facilities located in O’fallon parks, primarily the O’fallon Family Sports Park. The weekly schedule for this position is Tuesday-Saturday during the sports season. The schedule may be adjusted to Monday-Friday in the offseason when tournaments and sporting events are not taking place on weekends. This position is represented by the local labor union.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain various grounds and playing fields by performing mowing, irrigation, pesticide applications, field grooming and other manual tasks not specifically mentioned.
- Other responsibilities include but are not limited to; bathroom & concession facility maintenance, fence and netting repairs, field setups, identifying and correcting safety issues within the parks, and any other related duties as assigned by supervisors
- Perform janitorial functions in restrooms and park facilities to maintain a clean environment, including litter pickup and disposal.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate light to heavy equipment such as trucks with trailers, tractors, forklift, mowers, blowers, skid steer and other equipment as required
- Perform manual labor which includes lifting heavy materials and working in adverse weather conditions.
- Follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Other duties not specifically mentioned in this job description that are essential for the success of the park maintenance department.
- Overtime work may be required for extraordinary circumstances such as snow plowing during weather events.
Minimum Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One year of experience working in the grounds maintenance industry or similar
- Must possess a valid IL driver’s license and be able to obtain a Class ‘B’ CDL within 12 months of employment
- Illinois Pesticide operator’s license preferred at time of hire, and required within 12 months of employment
- Must pass a drug test as a condition of employment
- Experience and knowledge of irrigation systems, pumps, plumbing and electrical is preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to work independently without direct supervision, as well as in a team environment to safely and productively complete tasks. The ability to exercise initiative, good judgement, and time management while remaining productive is essential. Work assignments will generally fall within operational areas described for this position, but the ability to support general park needs in other areas will be required at times.
- The ability to motivate and guide others in the safe and productive performance of tasks associated with the maintenance of the sports park and grounds.
- Possess the knowledge and ability to operate equipment, motor vehicles, power tools and hand tools effectively and safely. Have the ability and aptitude to learn and operate new equipment.
- The ability to use a computer, computer hardware and common software applications such as email and work orders.
- The ability to perform basic to intermediate math calculations for field setups and pesticide applications.
- The ability to understand and comply with workplace rules and policies.
- Must be able to work and cooperate with others, resolve problems, and possess a positive attitude while contributing to and maintaining a safe, productive, and respectful work environment.
- Must always represent the department in a positive and professional manner and serve as a reliable source of information about department programs, park maintenance operations, and park rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to perform physical activities such as standing or walking for extended periods, frequent and repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing of ladders, or working aloft from an aerial lift device/truck
- The ability to lift up to 100lbs unassisted.
- The ability to push, pull, squat and perform repetitive movements on a regular basis
