Job Summary:
This position will perform a variety of maintenance duties pertaining to the overall operation of grounds and facilities located in the Parks, Cemetery as well as other City owned facilities.
The purpose is to support the department's operational responsibilities in key areas such as facility, horticulture, grounds, and sports field maintenance. Its mission is to provide safe, professionally maintained and aesthetically attractive parks and green spaces that provide opportunities for active and passive recreation while enhancing the quality of life and contributing to the value and attractiveness of O'Fallon as a place to live and visit.
Experience is not required or necessary. Job specific training will be provided. Pay rate will be determined based on experience and availability. There are many available shifts including evenings, weekends, half days and partial weeks and most personal schedules can be accommodated. This position has paid holidays observed by the city of O’Fallon, sick time, and vacation time.
Open Positions
Part-time (29.5 hours per week) $15-$20 per hour
The Part-time position is responsible for the performance of grounds and facility maintenance tasks in city sites that include, The Parks, City Cemetery, and City Facilities. These tasks will generally fall within the operational areas of turf maintenance, horticulture, facility, custodial and special events. The ability to work a schedule of 29.5 hours a week, work alone and in small groups, communicate and work efficiently are required.

Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
- mowing, trimming, blowing, tilling, raking, other manual tasks
- janitorial functions in restrooms and park facilities to maintain a clean environment, including litter pick up and trash disposal,
- special event setup and service.
- department assistance as needed.
- Plant installations, pruning, deadheading, mulching, weeding, edging, tilling, raking, watering, digging, brush removal, invasive species removal, and other manual tasks.
- Manual labor includes lifting heavy materials, bending, stooping, standing/walking movement for extended periods of time, kneeling, pushing and so forth.
- Operating equipment such as park vehicles with trailers, mowers, utility vehicles, snow blowers, bed edger, sod cutter, weed trimmer and hand tools; other duties as assigned. Training is provided for all equipment use
Essential Skills/Abilities:
- Must have an email address to receive work schedules;
- Ability to efficiently and courteously interact with people;
- Qualities such as competence, independence, self-sufficiency, dependability
- Special protocols are implemented to lessen the need to work in adverse weather conditions, although at times working in the heat, cold, rain and the snow is needed.
- Ability to work staggered shift assignments as necessary including evenings and weekends;
- Ability to use or learn to use a variety of tools and equipment;
- Strong customer service skills;
- Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to be productive with limited supervision;

Essential Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, Required.
- Valid Drivers’ License in good standing, Required.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Most work is accomplished in an outdoor environment, subject to weather fluctuations (wide range of temperatures and inclement conditions) – Required.
- Ability to walk, run, stand, and sit and complete a variety of motor skills;
- Ability to lift and carry 30-70 pounds regularly;
- Ability to hear and see well;
