What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Laborer - Marina (Temporary-Summer Hire) position at City of Oak Harbor?
Temporary Seasonal employees will deal directly with the boating public, provide information to visiting boaters, and will often represent the "face" of the City to visitors and marina tenants.
A Seasonal employee is an employee whose hours are variable and whose hours may be regular or irregular scheduled to meet the needs of the City-provided services. Seasonal employment is not to exceed five (5) months of full-time employment (equivalent to 866 hours worked) within twelve (12) months and seasonal employees are not generally entitled to City-provided benefits. Seasonal employees should expect the possibility of working on weekends and holidays.Work activities involve multiple skills and may include any or all of the following depending on area of assignment, crew needs, emergency services, special projects and seasonal factors:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work is performed at the Oak Harbor Marina, and office areas, under potentially hazardous conditions and in all types of weather. A typical day may require ability to access all areas of facilities covering several miles, including stairs/steps and ladders ascent. Duties require manual dexterity and visual acuity to utilize hand and power tools, move items in excess of 50 pounds, as well as occasional work in high places and frequent exposure to machinery and water hazards. Weekend work is required as well as after-hours response to situations and emergencies. Must be able to report to work within thirty (30) minutes. If staffing is available, only one week of vacation will be granted during the boating season (Memorial Day – Labor Day). No vacation will be granted during the holiday weeks.

- Strong public relations and customer service skills are a necessity.
- Cleaning, painting and maintenance work on docks, floats and grounds.
- Operation of mower, edger, weed eater. Hand weeding and watering planters.
- Public rest room cleaning and maintenance, and trash collection.
- May serve as an attendant on marina fuel dock, assisting boaters in fueling and operating boat pump-out equipment.
- Providing assistance to boaters in docking and securing of vessels.
- Providing information to visiting boaters regarding available marina facilities and services, and directions to local restaurants, points of interest and public transportation.
- May receive and document payments by cash, check, or credit card for both moorage and fuel dock related payments.
- May be required to drive the marina truck for routine errands.
- Becoming familiar with marina emergency procedures manual, and with initial response requirements for incidents at the fuel dock (location of emergency shut offs, location of fuel/oil spill material, notification requirements).
- Becoming familiar with the location of, and requirement to wear, appropriate protective equipment for work being performed.

- Assist the Harbormaster and other Marina personnel with office functions as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to complete duties in an effective and timely manner.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Must pass a Criminal Background to include credit check, and a Drivers Abstract check prior to hire.
