JOB TITLE:
Recreation Intern Part-time
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:
Recreation
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Assist with the planning, implementation and administrative support of the recreation programs and special events.
REPORTS TO: Recreation Director
DESCRIPTION
Understand City of Oak Park Recreation Department mission, goals, accomplishments, programs, services, and facilities offers.
Understand day to day office administration and operations, workplace operations, event issues or trends, office policies and procedures, schedule and use of facilities, emergency procedures and communication with staff, volunteers, and vendors.
Assist and support full-time recreation staff to implement, promote and facilitate a wide range of community-based recreation programs, special events, Farmer's Market, Mobile Recreation,Pop-upEvents,pooloperations,youth&adultathletics,andsenioractivities.
Assist with all Farmers Market operations, including vendor coordination, compliance, program support, attendee engagement, and on-site setup and breakdown.
Handle transaction records and balancing of food assistance dollars during Farmers Market season.
Support community outreach efforts to increase participation in recreational activities.Maintain program records, including attendance and participant feedback.
Assist, coordinate and supervise volunteers involved in programs and events. Assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and special events.
Participateinstaffmeetings,specialeventsandprofessionaldevelopmentactivitiessponsored by the department; work cooperatively with other staff and promote teamwork.
May be asked to perform other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Reasonable knowledge of computers and software applications, Facebook and other social media
Initiative and resourcefulness in problem resolution
Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
Mustbeabletoworkindependentlywhileutilizingexcellenttimemanagementand prioritization of tasks.
Excellentverbalandwrittencommunicationskills,includingpropertelephone&email etiquette.

Ability to positively adhere to the City of Oak Park's policies and procedures.
Must be physically able to perform work duties; lift, push, pull and move equipment; boxes, bags, tables, chairs, and tents.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from High School or equivalent certification Background/experience/college classes in recreation, sports management, leisure studies, education or related field.
Valid Michigan Driver's License
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS - Must have the ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays (Fourth of July).
SALARY RANGE - This is a part-time position with an hourly minimum rate of $16.00
