Position Summary
This position provides preventive life guarding and aquatic safety measures by monitoring the activities of pool patrons and enforcing rules and regulations. Work responsibilities extend to providing swimming instruction, pool and facility maintenance and chemical tests.
Essential Functions
- Oversees the activities of swimmers to ensure their personal safety and the safety of others.
- Provides patron rescue and administers first aid or life saving techniques as necessary.
- Conducts classes in various levels of swimming ability and water safety.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of the pool, equipment and surrounding area.
- Maintains records and reports of pool activities.
- Performs routine water tests and makes necessary adjustments to pool chemicals.
- Responds to questions and complaints from patrons.
- Leads special and aquatic events and programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of first aid.
- Knowledge of life-saving methods and practices.
- Knowledge of swimming and water safety class instruction.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance and the proper chemical composition of pool water.
- Skill in providing effective class instruction.
- Skill in making quick decisions in emergency or life-threatening situations.
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
- Ability to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
- Knowledge of City policies, procedures and practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
Required Education, Experience, Licensing, and Certifications
- Must have current Lifeguard Certification.
- Must have current First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
