This position supervises the daily operation of a maintenance crew in parks maintenance, construction and related work.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervisory Responsibilities: Leads a crew of 5 - 8 semi-skilled workers and 1 - 5 community service workers or juveniles performing mowing, trimming, maintenance and various construction activities within the park system and other city property. Plans and assigns equipment and personnel. Assists in screening and selecting new hires, evaluating employees’ performance and counseling staff.
2. Maintenance/Construction Responsibilities: Participates with crew members in the daily operations. Inspects vehicles, tractors, front mount mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, etc. each day as they are assigned to a crew. Reads and interprets simple blueprints, sketches and diagrams which may be necessary to perform construction or maintenance activity. Operates gas powered equipment, heavy equipment, power tools and other small tools.
3. Daily Site Inspections: Performs on-site inspections of maintenance crew activities to monitor progress, proper procedures and safety practices.
4. Training: Trains crew members in proper use, set-up and maintenance of a variety of fuel powered equipment and power tools.
5. Record Keeping: Records and maintains personnel daily time logs. Maintains various man-hours and production reports as required.
6. Communicates with other employees and contractors in person and by two-way radio clearly and in a polite manner. Must also communicate in a clear and polite manner in person with citizens at the job site.
7. Performs minor field repair of equipment, when possible, to avert down time of machinery.
8. Events Support: Provides support for department special events before, during and after the event in areas and for functions relative to essential job duties and/or as otherwise assigned.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or GED required, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.
• Three (3) years of related experience and/or training.
• 12 to 18 months related management experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operators Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Must successfully pass Basic Pesticide Core Exam within one year of employment/promotion date.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 0 subordinate supervisor(s) who supervise(s) a total of 5 employee(s). Supervises 0 non-supervisory employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
