What are the responsibilities and job description for the Permit Technician position at City of Ocala?
This is a varied and highly responsible technical, clerical, and customer service oriented position. Reports to the One Stop Permit Center Desk Supervisor.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for technical and clerical duties, as well as a high level of customer service. Responsible for the processing of all types of construction permits, (i.e. building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and gas). Issues new Business Tax Certificates and renewals, new contractor certifications and renewals, performs cashier duties, maintains accurate records and schedules inspections for all construction trades
Correspondence: Prepares letters, in-house memos, and, forms, as needed. Correspondence may vary from simple to complex concerning building, engineering, legal, or other technical matters.
Customer Service: A high volume of direct customer service is performed to City employees and the general public in person, by telephone, radio, and written correspondence Assists in answering telephones, handling complaints, answering questions, screening calls, taking messages, and routing calls to various departments. Communicates clearly and courteously.
NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs other work as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or G.E.D. with two years clerical experience including two years in customer service or an equal combination of training, education and experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operator Drivers' License with an acceptable driving record. Must have strong organizational skills, the ability to work with minimum supervision and meet multiple deadlines. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Ability to maintain records and reports. Ability to compile and research data and prepare reports. Ability to communicate clearly and politely, both orally and in written form.
Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to use judgement in making decisions in accordance with established precedent.
Knowledge of the operations and functions of the assigned unit as related to handling of requests for information, business English, spelling and arithmetic. Must have computer skills and the ability to learn new software programs. . Must have knowledge of the principals and practices of office management.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and public.
