What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at City of Ocala?
This is a responsible, technical and professional position with responsibilities relating to the overall administration of the financial accounting and reporting functions of the City. This position works closely with and reports to the Fiscal Operations Supervisor.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review and post required General Journal and Adjusting Journal Entries.
2. Responsible for closing the monthly books in a timely manner.
3. Develops reports for the accounting operations.
4. Responsible for monthly account reconciliations.
5. Responsible for the annual physical parts inventory.
6. Responsible for bank reconciliations.
7. Assist with the year-end closing activity, up to and including the audit and ACFR.
8. Assist with meeting department performance measures.
9. Assist with the fixed assets, grant and pension accounting functions.
10. Attend FGFOA meetings, webinars, etc. to keep up to date with GASB changes affecting the City.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; master’s degree in accounting or business administration preferred.
A minimum of three years work experience, preferably in the governmental area.
Must possess advanced computer skills and the ability to create complex analysis using software applications.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operators Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
