The City of Oceanside is currently accepting applications for a part time Maintenance Assistant in the Fleet Division of Public Works department. The Maintenance Assistant will be required to have knowledge of basic mechanic knowledge.
This position is hourly extra help (not to exceed 999 hours per fiscal year).
Examples of Duties
The ideal worker can adapt to shop environment and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of workday throughout the city. Road calls, jump starts, drives truck to parts house to pick up automotive and heavy equipment parts required by equipment technicians; changes and repairs tires; may assist equipment technician with mechanical repairs and adjustments in a training capacity; operates forklift when necessary; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Examples of daily duties may include road calls, jump starts, and delivery of parts from one facility to another. This position may have to repair or replace tires on occasion and may assist other department employees with mechanical repairs and\or adjustments on an as needed basis.
This is an hourly, extra-help position which does not include leave or medical benefits, and will not exceed 999 hours per fiscal year.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Standard tools, methods, practices and materials of the several trades involved in the different operations of work assignments.
- Hazards and safety precautions of the job.
Ability to:
- Acquire skills in the use of standard equipment and hand tools used in the area of assignment.
- Perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Experience and Training
Experience: One year experience in delivery, maintenance or manual labor (preferably similar to the above duties).
Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
License: A current, valid, California driver license.
Working Conditions and Selection Process
Environmental Conditions: Office and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions.
Physical Conditions: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles; visual acuity for reading schematics and plans.
