Performs semi-skilled to skilled work operating moderately complex vehicles or construction equipment in the performance of assigned duties. An employee in a position assigned to this classification is responsible for safe operation of the vehicle or equipment. Responsibilities include performing routine safety checks and maintenance of the equipment as necessary. Work is assigned and reviewed by a designated supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation of work in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results in a safe, efficient manner.The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Knowledge of basic safety precautions and the occupational hazards connected with the use of moderately complex automotive equipment.
Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the use of equipment throughout the assigned work area.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment.
Knowledge of routine maintenance procedures for automotive equipment.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Operates a wide variety of light to medium weight automotive equipment, e.g., tractor mower, flat bed truck, single-axle truck.
- Performs maintenance and construction duties in highway, utility, or other assigned areas.
- Operates equipment in performing landscape or right-of-way maintenance.
- Operates pneumatic hammer/concrete saw to perform highway maintenance and construction duties.
- Drives flatbed truck hauling construction materials or equipment.
- Drives dump truck to deliver or remove materials.
- Drives dump, flat-bed and other trucks in transporting construction material, equipment, pipe, shell, gravel, nursery stock, trash, and other materials.
- Operates a variety of motor-driven equipment including tractors, trenchers, lake mowers, stump cutters, power saws, pumps, and similar equipment in performing tasks.
- May occasionally operate heavy and complex equipment on an emergency, relief, or trainee basis.
- Performs routine safety and pre/post operational checks on equipment.
- Performs maintenance duties as assigned in highway or utility construction maintenance.
- Operates tractor pulling mowing equipment as assigned to perform landscape maintenance.
- May be responsible for pickup and delivery of inventory and supplies.
- Performs minor maintenance; checks oil, fuel, water and air; cleans and washes equipment.
- Participates in general labor duties.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
