JOB
Performs public safety work in the enforcement of regulations and protection of life at a municipal pool and aquatics facility. An employee in this classification exercises responsibility for the safety of swimmers and non-swimmers using pools, and for rendering assistance in emergencies. Work may be seasonal in nature and is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations governing the public use of City pools and adjacent areas. Supervision is received from a supervisor who makes work assignments and reviews work by observation.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. Observes pool area from an observation tower or other assigned station to identify persons in need.Inspects the pool area, grounds, facilities and equipment for safety and proper condition. Monitors the activities and behavior of pool quests; ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Rescues swimmers in danger or distress; performs CPR and provides First Aid as necessary. Prepares accident/incident reports as required. Receives and responds to inquires, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding programs and policies. May operate pool vacuums, pumps, blowers, pressure washer, controller, and other maintenance equipment.May teach and direct various swimming and aquatics activities as assigned. May collect and deposit program registration and admission fees. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical/appropriate assignment to position.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of approved water rescue methods and specific first aid and resuscitation techniques. Considerable skill in swimming and water rescue. Ability to perform all types of pool rescue. Ability to rapidly learn departmental rules and regulations and to exercise tact, firmness and fair judgment in enforcing rules and regulations. Ability to teach and direct various aquatics activities.
