Reports to: Building Maintenance Supervisor
Summary: Under basic supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled labor in the repair and maintenance of City buildings, including basic carpentry, mechanical, security, painting, and landscaping work for the Building Services Department (BSD); assists building trades' workers as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled building maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks in buildings, grounds, and facilities; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Reads work orders, and compiles material, supplies, and equipment needed; performs repairs, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and component replacements on mechanical, electrical, security, and plumbing systems and equipment as directed; operates hand and power tools.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and BSD procedures; notifies supervisor of safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations.
- Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position.
- Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED required; AND three years of building maintenance experience, preferably with City of Odessa.
Knowledge of:
- City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Materials, equipment, and tools used in cleaning and maintaining buildings.
Skill in:
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Following verbal and written instructions and procedures, and BSD safety standards.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. Specific training and certifications may be required for some incumbents; journey-level experience in building trades is preferred. Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of an FBI criminal background fingerprint check in accordance with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) standards.
Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed in City facilities; requires the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment. Must wear city-approved safety shoes.
Must be available for 24-hour call.
