The Animal Diet Technician is responsible for the facilitation and preparation of animal diets and maintaining high standards of quality assurance and sanitation in all Nutrition Services.
Employment Status: Part-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Saturday-Monday 6:30 am-3:30 pm & Tuesday 6:30 am-10:30 am
Pay: $14.48 Hourly
Experience Required : Three (3) months of experience in animal diet preparation (unpaid work included) Or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job.
Minimum Education Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D.

Direct Supervisor: Nutrition Manager
Supervisory Responsibility: Direct (0); Indirect (0)
Primary Work Location: Zoo Setting both indoors and outdoors.
Certification: Valid Oklahoma driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire and pass driver’s history check. Completion of OKC Zoo Learning Management System (LMS) training in the first six (6) months of employment.
Other: This position is safety sensitive. It is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks and drug testing. This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory diseases, thus is subject to annual tuberculosis testing.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Prepare animal diets as prescribed in an accurate and efficient manner; deliver to each area; may prepare food in advance as needed.
- Assure acceptable condition of inventories and rotate stock to minimize waste.
- Assure that food safety procedures are in place, with special attention focused on proper food storage and handling.
- Receive and inspect all shipments and deliveries in compliance with established protocols as well as perform inventory cycles.
- Clean and sanitize diet preparation and storage areas daily; sweep and wash the floor daily.
- Proper handling, cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Break down boxes and take out trash as needed.
- Clean the cooler and freezer as needed.
- Aid veterinary and keeper staff as needed.
- Work collaboratively with staff and other departments to meet the Zoo's goals and objectives.
- Support OKC Zoo’s strategic management plans and institutional goals.
- Safe operation of vehicles used within the division.
- Driving motor vehicles on grounds and occasionally within the region.
- Work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and/or weekends and holidays and during emergency situations such as dictated by weather.
- Work in a manner that supports and protects the health of the assigned collection, including wearing assigned PPE and limiting exposure to known contagions.
