OPEN TO FORMER CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY EMPLOYEES ONLY - RETURNING LIFEGUARDS

$15.00 - $16.25 Hourly

Note : The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

Preferred Lifeguard Program Incentive: $100.00

To receive the incentive, individuals must:

  • Have worked the summer of 2024 as a Lifeguard with the City of Oklahoma City;
  • Submit an application by 11:59 p.m., March 2, 2025; and
  • Accept a conditional offer of employment by March 12, 2025.

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the Recreation, Health, and Wellness Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. This position is responsible for functioning as a lead worker at a municipal swimming facility. Typical duties include: performing duties and responsibilities consistent with those of a lifeguard; preparing work schedules and assigning lifeguards to duty stations, and giving instruction in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters; and overseeing lifeguards in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired prior to assuming the duties of the position. Applicants for this position must have completed Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to hire. Ability to travel is required.

Note: If you are under the age of 18 at the time you make application, you must print, complete, sign, and have a parent or legal guardian sign the " Authorization for Applicant Background Investigation/Verification, Drug Test, and Health Screen" (FORM B-MINORS) and bring it with you to interview for a temporary, part-time or seasonal job in the Parks and Recreation Department. Failure to bring the signed authorization form may eliminate you from employment consideration.

Note: Applicants for the position of Lifeguard must complete Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module within the first month of assuming the position.

The City provides low-cost lifeguarding and Certified Swimming Instructor classes for those who are interested in serving as a lifeguard for the City's Parks and Recreation Department. Training includes basic water rescue skills and emergency first aid. Multiple training class times and dates available. Note : This position will occasionally accept cash and make change; operate a concession stand or gift shop; and collect fees, admission tickets, and passes from patrons at various events or City facilities.

Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.

Background Investigation, Drug Testing, Physical Examination: Upon a conditional offer of employment/acceptance of position, the City of Oklahoma City will conduct a criminal history background check for external applicants. Applicants will be provided contact information for any third-party reporting agencies used to collect background information in connection with conditional offers of employment.

If the position accepted includes a driver license (commercial or non-commercial) Job Requirement, the City of Oklahoma City will obtain a Motor Vehicle Report for internal and external applicants.

If the position accepted is safety sensitive and/or a driving position, internal and external applicants will be provided a copy of the City of Oklahoma City's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy prior to being directed for a drug test.

If the position accepted is cyber security sensitive, internal and external applicants will be subject to a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Interstate Identification Index (III) Fingerprint Background check. Additionally, employees in this job classification must complete Level 4 Security Awareness Training and pass an online certification test.
