Camp Counselor/Recreation Leader for Summer Camp

Camp dates: May 30-Aug 8 (10 weeks, 40 hours per week)
Tentative Training Dates: May 19, 20, 21.
The Seasonal Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing diverse programs and experiences for children in a group setting. They are also responsible for the supervision and safety of the participants in his/her group, as well as the general enjoyment experienced by the participants.
- Plans and executes activities for summer camp participants that are age appropriate: Including, but not limited to: Sports, arts and crafts, special events and health-related activities;
- Supervises a group of summer camp participants.
- Encourages participation from everyone!
- Guides participants toward making the “right” decision.
- Administers appropriate discipline to participants as needed.
- Promotes a safe and healthy camp environment—administers basic first aid as needed.
- Complete reports as needed on child behavior:
- Assists in the transportation of participants on field trips and daily trips.
- Develops a working relationship with parents and full-time Recreation staff.
- Assists in the development and training of teen leaders.
Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Age 17 .
- Ability to lead camp groups and volunteers effectively.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices used in organizing and directing play and recreation activities.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations governing various competitive athletic games.
- Ability to lead, plan and coordinate various recreational activities, and youth programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
- Ability to lead subordinates and volunteers effectively.
- Ability to work effectively with children and young adults.
- Skill in a variety of recreational activities.
- Ability to operate a PC in a networked environment.
Education and Experience:
- Experience in organized and specialized varied recreational programs a plus.
(A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
- Must possess and maintain CPR certification. (Certification/Training provided)
Essential Physical Skills
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Moderate (15 to 44 pounds) lifting and carrying.
- Driving.
- Walking, bending, kneeling, stooping.
- Physical agility.
- Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a network PC.
- Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Works inside in an office environment and outside in a playground environment.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: From $17.05 per hour
