Nature of Work: This is a lead work position during an assigned shift at a wastewater treatment plant. Work involves determination of work to be done, assignment of work to subordinates, and operation of plant equipment.
Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. High school graduation or its equivalent AND Reasonable experience in the operation and/or maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment used by the City of Omaha or similar facility.
Special Qualifications: Must possess and maintain a valid class “O” drivers license. Must maintain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Certificate, Class III, in accordance with Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Certification Act.
Pay Range: $31.08 with step increases to $44.14 Hourly

Examination Information: The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 60% on the structured interview (100% weight).
Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran’s preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by February 21, 2025.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks
- Knowledge of functions, capabilities, and servicing requirements for wastewater treatment equipment
- Knowledge of the processes involved in the treatment and disposal of wastewater
- Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, and materials used in the maintenance of pumping equipment
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to use audio and visual means in order to monitor equipment for efficient operation
- Ability to accurately measure and calibrate meters and gauges
- Ability to perform mathematical computations to include addition, multiplication, division, and subtraction
- Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions
- Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public

- Assigns work and follows up on the work of WWTP Operators
- May also provide input into the performance evaluation and assist with training
- Inspects and ensures proper operation of assigned equipment
- Oversees the operation of equipment and adjusts as necessary
- Researches problems and recommends solutions
- Investigates and prepares accident reports, providing recommendations to maintain safety standards and prevent further accidents
- Monitors chemical operations and processes to ensure safe and efficient application
- Prepares maintenance repair work orders and submits to the maintenance supervisor
- Oversees and participates in the changing of chlorine cylinders
- Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification
