Nature of Work : This is advanced sub-professional supervisory and technical engineering work performed in the field, a laboratory, or office. Employees are responsible for supervising, coordinating, inspecting and providing assistance on new construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
Education and Experience : The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and / or experience. High school graduation or its equivalent AND Eight (8) years of sub-professional engineering or construction management experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Bachelors degree in civil engineering or construction management / engineering may be substituted for four (4) years of sub-professional engineering or construction experience.
Special Qualifications : Must be able to drive or coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the city during the course of the workday.
For the Design Division :
Must be highly proficient in AutoCAD and have experience with Civil 3D (now AEC Collection).
Experience setting up, modifying and producing finished plan set packages.
Experience with ArcGIS and Microstation preferred.
Design software, hardware and technology management experience preferred.
Pay Range : $71,676.80 with step increases to $99,278.40 Annually

Examination Information :
The examination will consist of a training and experience form designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. The training and experience form will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to test for the position. The form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department by March 6, 2025 (passing score 60%). Final eligibility list will be the training and experience form weighted 100%.
Veteran Points : To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by March 6, 2025.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks
- Knowledge of construction principles and practices, materials used, and tools and equipment common to the construction industry
- Knowledge of engineering drafting techniques
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and codes governing public and private construction work
- Knowledge of soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures
- Knowledge of current construction materials and labor costs
- Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of a group of subordinates
- Ability to perform precise survey work, perform engineering computations, and reduce field notes
- Ability to prepare, interpret, and review engineering plans blueprints and specifications
- Ability to understand oral or written instructions
- Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public
- Ability to sit or stand from 51 to 75% of the time and to climb, reach, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, push, pull, lift, and type up to 25% of the time
- Ability to move objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds up to 33% of the time, objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds from 34 to 66% of the time, and lighter objects from 67 to 100% of the time
