The City of Omaha operates under a Strong Mayor-Council form of government. Omaha is a full-service city, committed to providing quality customer service to its residents. The Streetcar Operations Manager is a newly created position that will lead the implementation of the streetcar operations within the city and reports to the Public Works Director.The manager is responsible for directing and implementing the policies, programs, and plans of the Omaha Streetcar Authority (OSA), which involves comprehensive oversight of streetcar operations and capital construction of Omaha streetcar projects. The Manager is a civil service position. The Manager oversees a staff of ten (10) individuals and administers a budget of approximately $1.4 million dollars.
Omaha Streetcar Authority - The Omaha Streetcar Authority oversees the design, implementation and operation of the streetcar. The authority was created in April 2022 through an interlocal agreement between the Omaha City Council and the Metro Transit Board of Directors. The seven-member board includes three members appointed by the Mayor, three members appointed by Metro and one member appointed by the Greater Omaha Chamber. Partners include the City of Omaha, Greater Omaha Chamber and its Urban Core Committee, Metro Transit and Omaha by Design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Planning, Construction Management, Civil Engineering/Transportation Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience managing a comprehensive public transportation system, streetcar system, or municipal traffic/transportation programs, including supervising subordinates, budget management, making decisions and solving complex technical problems, and negotiating and administering contracts.
The expected salary is $104,499.20 with step increases to $143,291.20/Annually (salary equal with demonstrated experience) with excellent benefits. CIVIL SERVICE REQUIREMENTS AND VETERANS’ PREFERENCE
As a civil service position within the city, there are certain examination requirements based upon the number of qualified applicants for the position. Depending on the number of applicants (10 or more) the examination will consist of a training and experience form designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. The training and experience form will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to test for the position. The form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department by March 24, 2025 (passing score 60%). Of the candidates who pass the Training and Experience form, the top-scoring candidates will be invited to participate in a structured interview (passing score 60%). Final eligibility list will be an overall score with the Training & Experience form weighted 50% and the structured interview weighted 50%. If the number of applicants is less than 10, the examination will consist of the structured interview only (passing score 60%). Final eligibility list will be the structured interview score weighted 100%.
