The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity in supporting one of the fastest growing broadband fiber-optic networks? The City of Ontario's Broadband Operations Department is seeking a Broadband Technician to assist in the development and support of building and sustaining a broadband fiber optic infrastructure Citywide. The Broadband Technician, under general supervision, performs a wide range of specialized technical duties in the operations, maintenance, configuration, installation, activation and troubleshooting of the City's broadband communications network. The Broadband Technician will be assigned with responding to regular, emergency and on-call support requests and maintaining accurate records of service.
Part-time employees may be scheduled to work up to 29 hours per week and are not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans.

The essential functions typically performed by the Broadband Technician include the following:
- Performs specialized technical duties in the operation, installation, repair, and maintenance of the City's broadband communications or network.
- Performs operational and maintenance related duties including splicing, distribution changes of fiber optic cables, pulling, laying, aligning and positioning fiber optic network equipment.
- Mounts splice closures, racks, switches and other fiber optics distribution equipment.
- Troubleshoots and installs copper and fiber optic data cables.
- Performs routine tests on City's fiber optic network for preventative and troubleshooting maintenance.
- Responds to emergency/non-emergency service calls.
- Maintains and records reports for maintenance and technical support requests.
- Read and interpret blueprints and fiber optic design plans and diagrams.
- Perform audits of fiber optics point of presence locations, fiber strand availability, and equipment/material locations.
- Performs fusion splicing, optical connectivity testing, fiber distribution unit configuration and activation at various locations.
- Attends safety, compliance and technical trainings.
- Develops and maintains positive relations with the general community, local contractors and employees.
- Provide guidance and support for citywide broadband systems.
- Subject to after-hours and on-call duties.
- Performs related and other duties and responsibilities as required.
High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
Experience
Three (3) years of technical experience in operations, installation or splicing of fiber optics. Technical training and/or certification(s) may be substituted for up to one (1) year of work experience.

License
Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Desirable
Technical certifications or post-secondary coursework in electronics, fiber optics, fiber installation, splicing, testing, and telecommunications technology are highly desirable. Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese and or Mandarin.
Special Requirements
Ability to work any shift, including evenings and weekends. Ability to move and lift equipment of 50 pounds or more.How to Apply
