Job Summary
Open/Closed Drainage: Performs responsible technical and supervisory work, assisting with implementing stormwater management, lake management, and aquatic plant programs. Primary duties include scheduling, assigning, and inspecting the work of several storm drainage construction and maintenance or aquatic weed control crews; training personnel; and estimating project costs. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Surface Water Maintenance Program Manager. Work is reviewed through conferences, oral/written reports, and results obtained.
Street Sweeper Program: Oversees the daily operations and maintenance of the City of Orlando’s Street Sweeper Program. This position includes managing a team of street sweeper operators, scheduling work, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards, and maintaining efficient program operations. The supervisor will coordinate daily activities, provide leadership, and implement strategies to improve operational effectiveness. This position reports directly to the Street Sweeper Program Manager and ensures that the street sweeping program aligns with municipal goals for cleanliness and public safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
Open Drainage: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and a minimum of four (4) years of responsible experience in storm drainage, construction and maintenance, and/or aquatic weed control work, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required prior to employment. Florida Restricted Pesticide License in core, aquatic, and right of way categories required within twelve (12) months of employment.
Closed Drainage: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and a minimum of four (4) years of responsible experience in storm drainage, construction, and/or maintenance, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. FSA Stormwater Operator Certification - Level 1 required within six (6) months of employment. FSA Stormwater Operator Certification - Level 2 required within six (6) months of receiving Level 1 certification. FDEP’s Stormwater Erosion & Sedimentation Control Inspector Training & Certification required within twelve (12) months of employment. Good working knowledge of modern personal computers with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office 365 software programs preferred.
Street Sweeper: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in program management, preferably in municipal public works or transportation operations, with a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory or administrative role. Valid Florida Driver’s CDL License required. Associate’s Degree in Program/Project Management, Engineering, or a related field with coursework in business administration is preferred.
