Summary:
Performs police agency duties related to community services such as animal control, processing and responding to citizen complaints, courier functions, and various other administrative and enforcement activities. Requires a variety of work hours, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Investigates complaints regarding violations of animal control ordinances, animal cruelty and other similar violations of City Ordinances and/or State Statutes including code violations.
Handles, traps, and transports tame, feral and injured wildlife in a cage that weighs approximately fifteen (15) pounds.
Functions in a police agency capacity in crime scenes and traffic accidents and may assist Police Officers with investigations.
Receives and screens incoming citizen calls to determine services needed.
Completes incident reports and communicates with victims, witnesses, and complainants to complete police offense reports. May be required to testify in hearing or court proceedings.
Loads, transports, and sets up street signs and barricades which may weigh up to thirty-five (35) pounds.
Performs traffic control for motor vehicle crashes, special events and road repairs.
Completes processing of prisoners which includes the completion of necessary paperwork, photographing and fingerprinting.
Performs fingerprinting functions for passports and concealed weapons permits.
Performs courier duties and transports found property.
Participates in after-hours duties as assigned. Must be available for overtime and emergency call-outs when necessary.
Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.
Meets attendance requirements.
Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.
Performs other job-related functions as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent recognized certificate supplemented by one year of related experience.
Qualification Requirements:

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.
Ability to obtain an Animal Control Officer certification through the Florida Animal Control Association (FACA) upon hire. Must be comfortable handling and transporting domestic, feral, and aggressive wildlife.
Ability to operate and handle City trucks and towing equipment.
Basic skill level using Microsoft Office products.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing and project a consumer friendly environment.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to analyze situations quickly and apply laws, ordinances, regulations and departmental policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Sufficient auditory perception and speaking ability for radio communication.
