The GIS Technician provides advanced technical support for GIS services and serves as a technical lead on various projects. The GIS Technician provides analysis and display of geographic data to staff, citizens, and other stakeholders. The GIS Technician provides a broad range of services including web development, database maintenance, and general mapping/data requests.

The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive:- Works with the Engineering and Public Works departments to identify and create geospatial data, maps, applications, analysis, and reports.
- Develop and manages GIS mobile applications and offline editing.
- Conducts and coordinates GIS training to City staff.
- Performs a variety of GIS data modeling, conversion, maintenance, quality assurance, and documentation tasks.
- Creates and maintains public-facing interactive GIS web pages.
- Provides support for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of the ArcGIS platform, database, and software and escalates to vendors as needed.
- Providers incident and service request support for Public Works.
- Configure and maintain ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise servers.
- Manage and maintain ESRI geodatabases.
- Conducts field data collection
- Train other team members and power users on GIS and other GIS technologies and provide guidance as needed.
- Must know how to use ESRI ArcGIS software to enter, edit and output geographic information, and be familiar with the Windows operating system and file systems.
- Strong knowledge of Structure Query Language (SQL), Triggers, and Stored Procedures.
- Knowledge of developing Crystal Reports and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services reports.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Server Administration, Python scripting and workflow/data automation, and Arcade scripting.
- Ability to review and interpret routine to moderately complex construction plans, final plats, legal descriptions, surveys and field-collected data used in the digital data creation process.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must have a basic understanding of CMMS software.
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in information system management, GIS, or a related field; Minimum 2 years’ experience using ESRI ArcGIS software in a municipal or related environment.
- Experience in assessing client needs and translating them into GIS products and services.
- Experience working with GIS applications for water, wastewater, storm water, and electric utilities is highly desirable. General knowledge of municipal agency GIS uses within Community Development, Municipal Services, Parks/Recreation/Tourism, Public Safety, and utilities.
- Experience with OPENGOV is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- GIS Certificate/training preferred.
