An entry level position within the Transportation Department performing a wide variety of semi-skilled assignments in maintenance and construction work on street projects and traffic control devices.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Patch asphalt streets and prepares streets for asphalt; grades gravel streets, shoulders and other street work as necessary. Sands, salts, and removes snow from streets and City parking lots when necessary. Perform a variety of tasks, including installation of guardrails, concrete pads, conduits, and maintenance and repair tasks involving carpentry, painting, and general electrical work. Participate in the installation and maintenance of traffic devices on construction projects. Perform storm drainage ditch cleaning and routine maintenance on the same. Clean gutters, culverts, and other storm drainage structures. May assist in the maintenance and repair of City parks. May operate light equipment such as dump trucks, pick-up trucks, and similar equipment. Perform routine maintenance and service on motor vehicles and equipment. Follow daily and weekly work schedules and complete projects in a timely and accurate manner. Follow departmental rules, policies and procedures, and assists fellow employees in same. Follow rules and policies to be in compliance with safe working practices. Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of: Construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in the maintenance and repair of streets and parks.Hazards and safety precautions, appropriate to the position.Ability to: Carry out general mechanical tasks.Maintain detailed accurate records and reports.Operate City vehicles in accordance with state laws and City Policies.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and general public.Understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision.
