Under general supervision, perform complex Youth Services casework. Work requires advanced judgment concerning multifaceted cases involving the abuse / neglect / exploitation of minors. Requires attendance of necessary training to keep up with evolving case work procedures. Demonstrate effectiveness to train, assign, and review the work of others as a lead worker. This level of youth service work is characterized by serious and complicated casework that requires advanced judgment of possible dangerous situations to both worker and client. Personal vehicle required for travel. Overtime and on-call during non-regular business hours required. Must be available and have access to telephone. Performs related work as required. This position is for the Bureau of Social Services.
Applicants must possess a valid WV driver's license, and reliable transportation. Applicants also must have strong communication skills, both oral and written, and maintain detailed case records and extensive documentation. Overtime hours and frequent travel may be required. Example of Duties and Responsibilities
These positions perform professional social services work providing services to the public in the program area of youth services. These positions are expected to provide leadership and expertise involving family preservation when youth are exhibiting mental, emotional, or behavioral concerns that place themselves and others at risk. They coordinate with others to ensure youth are placed in the least restrictive environment while receiving services. These positions may act as a back-up for the supervisor. Work requires the use of a personal vehicle for extensive travel. These positions are subject to on-call status during non-business hours and may be required to deal with situations which are potentially dangerous to the client and worker. Perform related work as required.
- Prepare social assessments.
- Interact with a variety of professionals in the area of social work, mental health, developmental disabilities, education, juvenile delinquency, and counseling to assess client's needs to provide appropriate services.
- Develop client case plans to accomplish habilitation and rehabilitation of the client and to provide social services to assist in attaining social, educational and vocational goals.
- Work within the court system for juvenile delinquency and status offense by preparing social assessments.
- Locate services for clients, which may include out-of-home care, such as foster care, emergency shelter, residential mental health treatment or transitional living.
- Counsel clients and families in achieving the goals of case plans.
- Counsel clients to correct delinquent and socially unacceptable behavior; prepare case plans, monitor the progress of clients, including those under the court's supervision.
- Speak before educational and community organizations and groups regarding services available and develop community resources.
- Write reports on case findings and summaries of client social and financial circumstances.

Experience :
Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in children, youth, or adult protection services in a public or private health and human services agency.
Special Requirements :

Internal Applicants Only :
One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Youth Service Worker may substitute for the required experience.
