This position is responsible for developing, preparing, instructing and modifying fitness classes at the Oshkosh Seniors Center (OSC). The employee will provide and expand a wide variety of age-appropriate fitness classes for adults 50 and older with wide and varying fitness levels to meet their needs, interests, challenges and abilities.
This position works closely with the Activities Coordinator and Program Supervisor in the development and application of all fitness programming. The following duties are normal for this position.
- Fitness Classes (90%): Provide professional, safe and effective fitness classes. Develop exercise routines for specific classes. Offer ongoing motivation and feedback to class participants. Demonstrate modifications for intensity and impact of exercises. Provide specific emphasis on safety and proper execution of movements.
- Fitness Equipment (5%): Teach older adults proper techniques of using fitness equipment, including free weights, body bars and resistance bands.
- Record-Keeping (5%): Maintain confidential participant records. Handle emergency situations and submit incident/accident reports to appropriate staff.
Education and Experience:
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to obtain certification/training in an exercise or health science related field.
- Willingness to seek additional training and certification from an evidence based or accredited group exercise organization.
- Experience teaching group exercise classes for older adults is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to conduct classes and all activities related to fitness.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by communicating, verbally and in writing, with city employees and the public.
- Ability to work with confidential information.
- Good interpersonal skills and be team oriented.
- Skill in meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.19 - $18.89 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
