The City of Oshkosh is seeking a motivated Traffic Painter to enhance roadway safety for our residents and visitors! This semi-skilled role combines craftsmanship, technology, and public service—perfect for someone who enjoys a variety of tasks and working outdoors.
What You’ll Do:
- Pavement Marking: Apply and maintain crosswalks, centerlines, lane lines, directional arrows, and parking markings using paint and specialized tapes. Mix paints, clean and repair equipment, and ensure long-lasting, visible results.
- Signage Design & Installation: Design, fabricate, and install traffic and wayfinding signs using both freehand and computer-aided tools. Mount signs on posts, buildings, and overhead structures. Mark and coordinate underground utility locates; perform metalwork and carpentry for custom sign installations.
- Safety & Recordkeeping: Operate and maintain trucks, trailers, hand and power tools, and paint/sign equipment. Track work activity, materials usage, billing, and sign damage. Strict adherence to municipal, state, and federal standards/safety protocols.
- Teamwork & Flexibility: Collaborate with city, state, utility, and public partners. Support team activities including traffic studies, data collection, and work across Transit and Electrical divisions when needed.
About You:
Education & Licensing: High school diploma (or equivalent) and a valid driver’s license.
Experience: Relevant experience in traffic painting/sign work preferred—or demonstrate mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Skills:
- Competence with computers (Word, Excel), basic carpentry and metalworking, and safe tool/equipment operation.
- Able to read and interpret plans, diagrams, and instructions.
- Awareness of workplace safety and hazard prevention.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly lift/carry up to 110 lbs.; use a 38-lb post driver for sign installation.
- Perform hands-on, outdoor work in all seasons.
