PARKS SSNL LABORS - We Are Seeking Two Seasonal Zookeepers To Assist At The Menominee Park Zoo. Since Animal Care Is Provided 7 Days a Week, Work Schedules Will Be As Follows
Spring (April 5 - May 18, 2024) Weekends from 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Summer/Fall (May 19 - September 27) Daily from 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. * Rotating Schedules (Sunday - Wednesday, Saturday) * Additional shifts may be included to cover full-time staff leaves
This position provides good, hands-on work experience to individuals seeking a career in animal care and conservation. Internship credit opportunities are available.
The primary responsibilities of this position include the general care and maintenance for the zoo's animal collection and support facilities. The position reports to the Assistant Parks Director but will work under the general daily supervision of the Zoo Specialists.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Utility carts, grounds maintenance equipment including mowers and weed whips, power and hand tools, phone, and mobile or portable radio.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee must frequently lift or move weights up to 50 pounds, including hay and other animal feeds for loading, unloading, storage and feeding, plus have the ability to engage in occasional strenuous exertion in restraining animals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently works around dangerous animals in a variety of outdoor conditions typical of Wisconsin. The employee is occasionally exposed to cold and wet or hot and humid conditions.

- Animal Care (70%): Performs routine husbandry of captive wild and domesticated animals, per the Zoo Specialist care guidelines and training program. Duties include cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining animal enclosures and exhibits. Controls animals within and between pens, enclosures, and cages. Inspects animal exhibits and facilities for unsafe conditions. Observes and assesses animal behaviors and habits. Implements animal enrichment programs as developed by Zoo Specialists.
- Facility and Grounds Maintenance (30%): Works with non-display horticultural features, including flowering plants, shrubs, trees, and other landscaping. Performs general and preventative maintenance work on zoo grounds to include sidewalks, restrooms, and other public areas. This may include cleaning, snow removal, mowing, trimming, painting, and minor construction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Secondary education related to Captive Wildlife, Biology and Animal Behaviors is preferred.
- One (1) year or more of demonstrated experience in the care of mammals, birds, reptiles, or other animal orders found in zoos is desirable.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
