The City of Overland Park has a temporary Blacksmith position available in the Parks and Recreation Department.
Job Summary Statement
Conducts and administers activities in the Blacksmith Shop. Operates forge and produces handmade metal items and interprets historical subject matter. Trains Education Program Attendants on the operations of the Blacksmith Shop.
Responsibilities
The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
Requirements
No City residency requirement.
Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.
Normal Work Hours: Variable Hours - PT/SEA/TMP
Pay Rate: $16.50 Per Hour

Responsibilities
- Creates an interactive environment while explaining the historical significance of a Blacksmith Shop.
- Hammers stock into specified size and shape on blacksmith anvil or positions stock on anvil of power hammer.
- Heats metal stock in blacksmith forge.
- Inspects building, tools, equipment and artifacts to ensure customer and employee safety.
- Maintains daily activity reports and tracks programs delivered. May include types of repair or fabrication performed during work shifts.

Requirements
- Basic high school education or equivalent.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
- Must maintain an insurable driving record.
- 2 years of experience working in a Blacksmith shop or familiarity working with a forge.
- Attention to detail.
