- Manage and instruct American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Lifeguard Review courses.
- Maintain proficient and up to date American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor knowledge, skills and techniques and use course materials effectively.
- Meet all American Red Cross objectives and requirements within class instruction and testing.
- Manage and execution of Lifeguard in-service trainings in accordance with American Red Cross and Owatonna Parks and Recreation Policies.
- Familiar with, enforce and uphold facility policies and procedures created in accordance with OSHA, The American Red Cross, and Owatonna Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department.
- Provide a controlled and safe learning environment for all participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe.
- Cover all required class and inservice material.
- Complete records and reports in a timely manner.
- Perform cleaning tasks before and after each class (such as cleaning mannequins and equipment).
- Clean and handle all training equipment with care and respect
- Attend meetings, in-services and trainings as scheduled.
- Inform Supervisor of problems or necessary repairs.
- Display a positive, customer service focused and professional image.
- Demonstrate leadership and public relations skills.
- Demonstrate effective communication and decision-making skills.
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:, Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification. Must be at least 17 years of age at the time of hire.
Employee must be capable of operating miscellaneous office equipment, safety, janitorial and other equipment relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Rescue Equipment, personal computer, copier, fax machine, communication equipment and related items.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard. At least 1 year of experience teaching all related courses. Current First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification.
Hours of Work: This is a position with scheduled shifts including mornings, days, evening, weekends, and holidays.
Physical and Mental Demands: This position works at various facilities and locations including indoor and outdoor, with all types of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
