What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector position at City of Owensboro?
Public Works full-time, non-civil service position performs engineering-related functions.
Regular work hours are 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday thru Friday, but must be available to work outside of those times and on weekends if the work requires.
Starting pay $28.0756/hr.

- Inspects and oversees construction of streets, sidewalks, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, street repairs;
- Performs erosion control inspections, and other types of construction work to ensure procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications;
- Measures distances to verify dimension accuracy of structural installations and layouts;
- Prepares material samples for laboratory testing;
- Prepares construction cost estimates;
- Inspects and approves workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard;
- Interprets plans and specifications;
- Thoroughly documents inspections and maintains a daily log of construction and inspection activities;
- Approves completion of construction to post and release bonds or payment to contractors;
- Investigates public complaints related to drainage, traffic, sidewalks, etc.;
- Reviews streets and sidewalks for resurfacing and repair.
- Associates Degree in Construction Management or other job-related field; OR
- 2 yrs. work-related experience as a Surveyor, Construction Inspector, or similar position
- Valid driver's license required
